Like many people, I found this blog via Popbitch. It had clearly only recently been started. And now it seems to have come to an end amid cryptic talk of book deals. A canny bit of stealth marketing, one wonders? Over to you, Mr. Moran...
I'm very happy to have been thought canny. The truth is rather more prosaic and illustrative of my characteristic impatience.
My agent was already out shopping the property when I got a bit bored and started posting bits of it online to see what people thought of it. The PopBitch thing was an unforeseen development which increased the visibility of the project rather unexpectedly.
Im very happy with the outcome, obviously, and will probably re-activate this blog at some point but I need to have another interesting idea first. It might be a while!
It doesn't really work as a marketing device because the book won't be out until Summer 2008, by which time I would have imagined most readers will have quite forgotten what they read in these few weeks.
Well I'm very touched by that. More than any grownup really ought to be.
I'm bound to have a decent idea sooner or later. Or maybe I can pinch one someone else. Either way, I'll be back. Doing this blog was significantly more enjoyable than I expected it to be.
OK, it's not absolutely certain that you'll lose your bags, catch a fatal bout of food poisoning or be unjustly banged up in a foreign jail while you're on holiday. But you might. Why would any sane person risk it?
Holidays aren't economical, there's not exactly ecological, and they're not guaranteed to be all that much fun. There's only one way a holiday can go right (the flannel in the brochure) and hundreds of different ways that the holiday can go wrong (the flannel in my book)
With travel tips, handy warnings, and lists of great stuff you can only do at home Sod Abroad will help you kick the holiday habit.
Instead, why don't you just spend a lovely fortnight on your sofa, in your own comfy home, watching your own telly and eating food you can actually pronounce.
Who knows? If there's nothing on telly you can even read a book....
Like practically everyone else you meet on the internet, I'm sort of writer. I've written a couple of books. I write for some newspapers, and I write a lot of stuff about the telly. This is that stuff.

Oh cack. Can't you at least go off on a tangent and write something else? Just keep writing!

Oh, don't go. I feel I was just getting to know you - and then you cruelly vanish without so much as a bye-your-leave.
Best of luck. I was enjoying reading your blog, but understand when people need to go, stop, or change.
Cheers,

Good luck with the book, Mikey, and hopefully inspiration will strike back faster than the Empire.
